I drank Thailand straight after Indonesia because I had to.

My Indonesian beer is called Bintang. An unfortunate name, probably lost in translation but I dont care, I didn’t like it. No beating around the bush, it was like beer flavoured water. I kept thinking of how Bintang would (should) be used in a sentence… “Oh no, I’ve got Bintang running down my arm”, or ”Empty your bottle before throwing it away, otherwise we’ll have Bintang everywhere”.

I swiftly disposed of the ‘tang with Singha. Which, by comparison (and in its own right) is a delicious beer. A popular full flavoured lager from Thailand, Singha sponsors Chelsea FC and Red Bull Formula one team which means it’s cool so buy it.

Probably my favorite Asian beer so far. There’s still Japan, but sadly no India in this Box set from the internationalbeershop.com.au.

Singha is not über strong in flavour like the Europeans yet it’s still 5.0%, tastes clean and crisp but not too dry. Does that make sense?

Interestingly, The “Singha” is a powerful, mystical Lion in Hindu stories. It was once known to shit all over “The Bintang” which is in my story.

We’re going back to Greece next. Not sure why, it’s just the order of things.

This Badboy is Baltika #8, from Baltika Breweries which is aparently the 2nd largest in Europe (?) Ruskys like their beer!

I say beer, but this is an “unfiltered wheat ale” so it’s pale and quite cloudy, which I didn’t notice until I’d nearly finished.

To be honest I was pretty charged when I tasted this, and I can assure you I was hammered after it. The pic doesn’t show it, but this is a BIG beer.

What I did notice was the strong belgian style flavour. It’s almost like ‘Leffe Blond” or Hoegaarden. Kinda surprising really, it’s like it’s been brewed with a bit of finesse. Not made with gypsy tears or heavy water.

It’s like Tasty Wheat. If ‘Mouse’ from The Matrix didn’t attempt to fire two automatic shotguns from the hip while Neo and Morpheus tried to escape, I would’ve told him that this is what tasty wheat tastes like.

It’s Russian. It’s huge. It’s strong like hammer and (probably) harvested by sickle

The first of 20 beers from around the world. Of course we are starting in Czech Republic (?)

This is Budějovický Budvar, which looks a bit like the popular American “Budweiser”, because it is. This came out first. I was curious to find the meaning of this and lo, the ever reliable wikipedia tells all. Turns out there was a big international bumfight over the Budweiser name, but this shit was brewed ages ago in České Budějovice which of course, in German means “Budweis”. So there America.

Anyway how does it taste? well, I drank it quite quickly which means it’s good. On the way down however I noticed that distinct European flavour, similar to German beers where the Hops are the dominant flavour. Over all a crisp beer (maybe coz it was super cold) and clean aftertaste.

Good beer? Czech. A great kick off to a beerventure!
